Let us all take a moment to give thanks to those who have given us their support throughout the years. Too often we find ourselves forgetting to thank those who matter the most. No matter how big the gesture, be sure to show your appreciation this holiday season. To give your support to the less fortunate, here are a few local events that help our community.
Lending a hand to those in need is a wonderful way to give back to your community. The annual Tahoe Community Thanksgiving Celebration will provide meals to families in need this holiday season. Meals will be on a donation basis and the event is taking place on Thanksgiving day from 2:00 p.m, – 6:30 p.m. at the North Tahoe Event Center. Providing food for families is a great way to bring the community together to help one another.
Sometimes it’s hard to find time to help out during the holidays. Fortunately, there are programs that provide meals and assistance all year long. Bread & Broth is a nonprofit organization that strives to ease hunger in the community one meal at a time. This year they offered a free community Thanksgiving Dinner at St. Theresa Catholic Church. This was the 27th annual event that served meals to community members in need. St. Theresa’s offered a special Thanksgiving dinner on Monday, November 21 for families and individuals.
As winter starts to chill the air, and there is a need for some warmth, the Reno-Sparks Gospel Mission is providing more than just hot meals. The Thanksgiving Day Dinner and Winter Coat Giveaway is the perfect way to give a gift that lasts throughout the year. A traditional Thanksgiving Day dinner will be served in downtown Reno at several senior citizen centers to as many as 1,200 men, women, and children. Several thousand winter coats for all ages will be provided along with supplies to help community members in need. Reno-Sparks Gospel Mission also provides services throughout the year.
