Beer Fest season is almost here!

The tempo around the Lake is slowing down, a large number of tourists are leaving and we are starting to move from the beach to the mountains. Lower temperatures in the fall are great for different kinds of activities and events. Some may call this time of year the “local’s summer”, when this wonderful community gathers to celebrate the end of the season and unique mountain culture, including food and brew. The popularity of craft beer continues to grow as well as the number of local breweries in our area and now is the time to enjoy this crisp autumn season.

To kick it all off, on August 31st, Squaw Valley will host its 30th Annual Foam Fest.  This event features 25 breweries, serving over 40 different types of beer that will keep you sampling all afternoon. The cost of entry is $10. You can also purchase an all-inclusive beer tasting ticket (includes $10 entry donation) for $35 in advance / $40 at the door.

Most of the annual beer festivals were inspired by the real Bavarian Oktoberfest happening near Munich, Germany, since 1810. Oktoberfest, in Squaw Valley is a perfect example. Located at the bottom of the Ski Resort, this event transforms the Village into a small Bavaria. You can taste not only local but also authentic German beer and delicious food while enjoying typical Bavarian music and popular Oktoberfest games. Measure your strength abilities in the Stein holding competition or your accuracy in Brat tossing. If you are more into yodeling or the dog dress-up contest, head to the Historic Camp Richardson Resort in South Lake.

Mark your calendars and come to support local breweries. Prost!
