Local landmark and noteworthy new development project Rancharrah opened its gates for a grand opening celebration this past weekend. Rancharrah is a unique new luxury lifestyle community on 141 idyllic acres in South Reno.
The project will include custom and semi-custom homes, patio homes and luxury condominiums. This is all set around a historic focal point – the Harrah mansion. Rancharrah is due to become a 30,000+ square foot private club. The club will include a 9,500 square foot fitness center with pools, tennis courts, a grill center, and a retail development. The project will also incorporate the existing 52,000 square foot world-class equestrian center. This center will feature large indoor and outdoor arenas and room for training and boarding. In keeping with the history and nature of the site, 30% of the property will be left for open space. The developer has plans to add a trail park providing pedestrian access to Bartley Ranch and Wheatland Park.
In addition to the club are custom homes. The first release within Rancharrah is a small number of custom home sites ranging in size from 1/4 – 1/2 acres. Beyond the residential project, the development will also include adjacent retail, commercial and office/medical space.
A Reno icon, Rancharrah has remained within the Harrah family for generations. Bill Harrah, the founder of the Harrah’s Hotel and Casino empire, purchased what became known as Rancharrah in 1957 from Norman Blitz, “The Duke of Nevada”. As a result of Bill’s death in 1978, the ranch was passed down to his heirs. Bill’s son, John Harrah, bought out other family members in the early 1990s and then ultimately sold the ranch to Reno Land Inc. on October 13, 2015.
Reno Land Inc. held a groundbreaking ceremony on June 2, 2017, with local dignitaries, Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve, city council members and a host of community members. This unique multi-use development is a positive step in the Reno area’s growth and promises to be a prestigious place live and play.
